The Summer Work Experience Program is designed to provide a work-based learning experience in a competitive, integrated setting for high school students with disabilities. The program lasts six weeks and is held at various host businesses in our local area. Students are eligible for the program in the summer before their senior year of high school.
Students participate in 20 hours each week for the duration of the six week program. Sixteen of those hours are spent on the work tasks the student has chosen in coordination with the host business. The remaining four hours per week are dedicated to soft skill training activities, including communication, team work, problem solving, etc.
The Summer Work Experience Program has proven to be a fantastic opportunity for area youth looking to start their employment history and gain valuable work skills. Many of our participants have been offered permanent positions at their business sites!
